My absolutely favorite restaurant. EVER. Another wonderful weekend lunch. Great food and great service....do I need to say more?

It was my first Thai buffet. I'm a fan. I would have liked to have a few more entree options, though. Dessert would be a nice touch, too. I will say this, my water glass was never ever even close to empty. That scores a lot of points with me! It says that service is very important to them, and service is very important to me.

I can't say how happy I am to have stumbled upon this hidden gem one day. This is a wonderful little authentic Thai cuisine. The portions of the food are quite large, which is nice, because you will have some to take home and you will definitely crave more of it later. The atmosphere is nice, the staff even nicer. I don't think I've ever had better service than at this place, and simply can't say enough good things. This is my ultimate go to for Thai food in Kansas City. P.S. Be sure to ask for a side of Tiger sauce. You won't be disappointed.

I took the whole family here on a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was very busy but we got right in. We felt well taken care of even though it was a buffet situation and they were so busy. A lot of times I feel lost in the shuffle in those types of situations. We all had the buffet. I am not a huge buffet person, but this one impressed me! They have a wide assortment including a Pho bar with someone serving it to you with fresh add ins like cilantro and bean sprouts. The Pho wasn't amazing, but very good and fresh. The buffet offers fresh fruit, fried potstickers, small spring rolls and several varieties of fried rice and noodle dishes. They also offer several different add ins at the buffet like chili paste, peanuts and little dehydrated jalapeños which were very tasty. My son loved their fried chicken legs, he had 6-7 of them himself!! He kept saying..."you're bringing us here again" and "I love this place". The Sunday buffet was $12.95 per person, which I thought was more than fair considering all of the food available and all we tried. We will definitely be returning. I would like to return on a night when the buffet isn't offered to try some other dishes as well. We had a great experience and enjoyed the food and service very much!

OHMYGODYOUGUYS I love this place!! Best curry in town, tied with Thai House on Holmes, in my humble opinion. The yellow curry is to die for! Everything else is delicious too, according to my family. I just stick with the yellow curry at dinner- I know what works for me. I get it with chicken and extra rice on the side. The staff is lovely, it's very clean, their lunch buffet is a wonderful bang for your buck, and their Thai iced coffee is perfect. One bit of warning though- you order your level of preferred spiciness in a scale of 1-5. They claim 2 is mild/medium, and maybe I'm just becoming a wimp in my old age, but I swear that the 2 is more like a spicy 3 or 4. So order a smaller number than you think you'd like, or else have lots of milk and napkins on hand to beat the heat!

Love this place! However during this visit they waitress forgot to put in our order for sticky rice. It takes about 30 mins to make and goes well with the chicken larb. Although they did apologize and gave me a free thai tea, I really would have preferred the rice that I ordered. The Robin Hood ribs are excellent, especially with the special sauce they have on the side. It's served on a bed of fried rice. Bangkok pavilion is one of my favorite places in town for thai.

This restaurant has several things that would make it five star: fair prices, generous portions, and tasty curries. The only thing that I was disappointed by was their bubble tea. I often order taro bubble tea (with bobas) when it is available. The tea I got here tasted chalky and poorly portioned. As long as you stay away from the taro tea, the food is very good. We ordered out and all three of the entrees impressed us. We got two shrimp dishes and a yellow curry. The yellow curry was the crowd favorite by far! We will have to come by again some time when we can try the buffet!

The food here is up to my taste because these are foods that I grow up eating. I especially enjoy the Laaba and the Thai-style papaya salad. We were there during the weekend around lunch for the lunch buffet. I have to say that the taste of the food changes slightly once a new batch is made. For example: The Thai-style papaya salad tasted really good, a perfect blend of spices and ingredients. When the new batch came out, the taste was very salty and very sweet. I feel like the person who makes the new batch could have been a new person, or the recipe was never measured. Whatever the case is, I know I can taste the differences from each different batches. I don't like the pho because the broth was not up to my liking. I understand that most people could not tell the difference between pho broth from the can and fresh broth. The broth that was used during this visit was definitely from the can. I can taste it and that is why I don't like the pho. Reason for Minus star: The server did not go a good job. I felt that they (we have a female and male server working in the section we were seated) could have done a better job at refill and taking the stacked dishes away and other small things. Would I come back? Yes I would go anytime. Maybe, next time a better server could service our table.

Great little thAi restaurant. I had the stir fry cashew chicken & it was loaded with fresh crispy vegetables, just the way I like. They have a full bar with a couple of BLVD beers along with the usual stuff. Service was very friendly, decor was nice. Prices are very reasonable. We ate dinner here & the entrees were about $11-$12 each. If you're looking for some great ThAi food at reasonable prices with nice service you've found the place.

This is excellent Thai food, probably the best that I have had since moving to Kansas six years ago. This is the second time we have visited and both times we received excellent service and food. We really enjoyed the spring rolls and the peanut sauce as an appetizer. For our main meals we ordered the Lovely Chicken and General Tso's Chicken. The sauce on the Lovely Chicken was very good. I would say that even with a selection of 2 on the restaurants 1 to 5 spice scale, it was sufficiently spicy. The General Tso's was lightly battered and fried and cooked just to our liking. Some Yelp reviewers mentioned that they felt the price was a bit high for the portions received. I would disagree with this. The portions are just right for one person, and honestly, the portions correspond to normal portions in every other part of the world. Plus, the quality of the food and spices is excellent. We paid less than $30 for an appetizer and two dinners, which I thought was an excellent deal. (Plus, we had a Groupon so it was even less!)

Went here for a date night. The food came out quickly which was great. My water cup never ran dry and I drink H2O like a fish. I had the pad thai and was impressed. I at the whole plate, easily. It had a bit more raw carrot slices than I would have wanted on the top but they could easily be removed. My date got a fried rice and easily cleaned his plate. We also got some sake to end the meal with. Overall, a decent normal price point for thai food and service with a smile.

Bangkok Pavilion had some really strong recommendations from friends and co-workers in the area, but we just don't find ourselves over in Overland Park on the weekends very much. We had a reason to be right nearby on Saturday, and with a little coaxing, I talked my girlfriend and mom (who lives out in rural Missouri and had never had Thai before) into trying it out. I knew the weekend buffet was a major draw for Bangkok Pavilion, so it worked out that we managed to catch the Saturday edition. I'll just go ahead and throw this out there now - my girlfriend and I are both vegetarian and very near vegan, so we know things like this are, more often than not, a crapshoot as to what's available for us. I'll admit, at first glance, I was a little concerned that we were going to be eating white rice and garnishes for lunch. Both of the pho broths were meat-based, and the steamy selections of pork, chicken, duck, and various seafood combinations were extremely tempting but, sadly, off-limits. The lady who was manning the pho station took a few minutes, though, to show my girlfriend around as to what did and didn't have meat in it. I'd already started filling a plate up with mushroom salad, pad Thai, stir-fried vegetables, fried veggie spring rolls, and lettuce leaves for impromptu wraps. We both also tried the papaya salad, but I took to the unexpected heat a little better than she did My girlfriend made the rounds and came back with a decently-stacked plate, and as she sat down, the pho lady came back by to give her a couple of other suggestions about vegetarian options, mentioning that traditionally, people would take the veggie spring roll, tear a seam in it, and then spread that out on the lettuce leaf with other garnishes for a wrap. We've been at this long enough to know we are minor a demographic to most places, but it was nice to be given a little extra attention to make sure our experience was positive. Drinks were kept full, and each of us went back a couple of times, ostensibly coming back each time with pretty much a repeat of the previous trip. All in all, we walked out stuffed and happy. For the experience of introducing my mom to Thai, and the quality of the vegetarian options themselves, the price of the special buffet was reasonable. For meat-eaters, it would be really hard to argue with the selection and quality for the roughly $12 price in comparison to other weekend buffets.. I considered Bangkok Pavilion a nice stop but not necessarily a go-to destination for finding vegetarian-minded buffet offerings in the Kansas City area.

First Thai food buffet I have ever been to. The buffet is small, but there are plenty of delicious options to choose from. Thai iced tea was amazing! Staff is very kind and attentive. Drinks were not included in the price of the buffet, but they were not too expensive. Food is not the most authentic that I have ever had, but better than most you find in the U.S.

On of my favorite Thai eateries in Kansas City. The Som Tam is great- Issan style. Best that I have had in KC yet... I also enjoy the Pad Thai and Gra Pow- add the egg, they do it right. I don't typically eat buffets, so I haven't gone near it here.

Absolutely love this place for my Thai fix. I'm a major fan of pad Thai but their version is just a bit too sweet for my taste. The papaya salad and pineapple/crab/lobster fried rice is to die for! Awesome place to dine.

In my few years as a resident in the KC metro area, I had not yet found a Thai restaurant that I really enjoyed, and not to mention they are all a bit pricy for the food and flavor, until I discovered Bangkok Pavilion. In the past, I primarily have gone for the weekend buffet. This was always a great place to take our out-of-town visitors to because they always seem to crave Asian food 90% of the time. I am generally not a buffet kind of person; I can eat maybe 1.5 plates and then I'm done, so I consider myself someone who doesn't utilize the buffet to the best of my dollar. Taste wise, the buffet is pretty good, the curry fish is my favorite. I also always hit the pho and curry tables. On the flip-side, my all-time favorite dish there is one that is not in the buffet line-up, but rather on the dinner menu. The Robin Hood Ribs are to die for! The meat is fall of the bone juicy, and it comes with a special fried rice and dipping sauce and the portion is more than enough. I can only handle 3-star spicy on this, because anymore than that, it's a tad unbearable. I don't think I have really had anything else here besides the buffet and the RHR. This place gets super busy on weekends, so make sure to get there early! The staff is super nice and awesome as well.

Went on a quite night. Very fast service because of it. I had the Thai tea. The crab Rangoon was hand made and fresh. Order that for sure. Also had the three amigos ( it sounds spanish doesn't it?) - chicken, steak And shrimp (they left the tail on which I found odd) they ask on a scale of 1-5 how spicy you want it. I ordered 3 which was very spicy for me. Look for their groupon too.

Awesome array of delicious noodles, rice, and entree buffet on the weekends. And it's only $11! Lots of different dishes to choose from, and they brought out fresh helpings throughout the lunch hour. Fresh pho, with meatballs also available. The seafood didn't seem too fresh, seems like the restaurant orders frozen mussels and shrimp, which were a bit chewy. My favorite was the taro and tapioca dessert.

Several friends and I came to Bangkok Pavillion to check out their weekend lunch buffet. It was a bit of a trek, considering we were coming from the KC Plaza area, but I was hankering for some legit Thai food and knew that Thai Palace wasn't going to cut it. Glad we decided to do so because I was seriously impressed by the quality of the food at the buffet. The beef noodle soup was tasty and spicy and I especially loved the seafood salad, fish curry, and pork fried rice. The flavors were on-point and everything seemed freshly made. However, I'm a big fan of Pad Thai and didn't really like the version at this buffet; it was a bit too sweet for my palate. Bangkok Pavilion is definitely my new favorite Thai restaurant in the area and I'm sure I'll be back for more!

Went to the weekend special buffet with my adult children, they had been to highly recommended Thai place in Johnson County just a few days before. All of them liked this Thai food better, much better. They also remarked that they were paying less for the buffet than for one entre at the other place. This is my second time here and the variety and quality of everything is very good. I was amazed they had two kinds of Papaya Salad, one labeled Thai and one labeled Laos.

Weird, there are two Yelp entries for this place, so I'm posting my review here as well... Food was a 2. Service was good, so I'll bump them up to 2.5. We were a group of 6, and we sampled a lot: -Tiger Cry beef - tasty sliced steak and a green sauce that was likely just chopped jalapeños. Somewhat unremarkable, and a little dry. -Fresh and fried spring rolls. I didn't get to try one, but everyone seemed to like theirs. -Pad Thai. Disappointingly chewy, sticky and bland, with the tiniest shrimp. - Gang Dang curry - spicy and nice looking. But not tasty enough to take home the leftovers. - Triple Something? Delight? I can't remember the name, but it was more like Chinese food than Thai, in my opinion - not at all memorable in a good or bad way). - Taro bubble tea - the tapioca did not seem fresh. I'm not even sure if stale Tapioca is a thing, but the texture was off. Flavor was fine. The ambiance was pretty much non-existent, but the restaurant was clean and our waitress attentive. But... I won't be hurrying back when there are so many great places to eat in the area.

Best Thai buffet in town! If you are new in Thai food, or you can't decide what Thai food to eat, I would recommend this restaurant. Unfortunately, the buffet is just for weekend lunch. Papaya salad, Pho noodle soup, Nam sood, and grill pork are my favorites!

I'm rating this on food only, not factoring in vibe/location/etc. This is awesome thai food. It's authentic, delicious, well-portioned (the curries are a big meal if you're hungry, two easily). It's my take-out spot for Thai, and I'm seldom disappointed. The items aren't cheap, but you pay for the quality of what you get. I wish they would stop nickle and diming, however. You used to be able to sub rice noodles for rice, and make small changes at no charge. Lately they've been tacking on a few dollars for this. Don't let the hidden location, off of Metcalf no less, deter you. it's one of my favorite spots in KC and it's the best Thai food I've had here.

Went here for the first time two weeks and will definitely be returning. Their menu is extensive and their spring rolls and peanut sauce were very good, especially for the price. I had their panang curry which was delicious. It was fresh, spicy, and had a great peanut flavor. It paired perfectly with their jasmine rice, which is served family style. The service was exceptional. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely a nice alternative to the overpriced Thai Place.

I am absolutely a fan of Bangkok Pavilion. We've eaten here several times, both during the "special" weekend lunch buffet (which has several fish/seafood options - hurray!) and for dinner. Each time we've been in the service has been fast and friendly, the food is tasty, and the buffet is kept clean and well stocked. Even though I order my food at a level 4, I have yet to have it spicy enough for my taste (I like things pretty hot), so I always just go ahead and ask for the spice tray so that I can add the additional kick that I enjoy. Maybe one of these days I'll order the dreaded spice level 5, though I have to say that the spice guidelines on the menu don't really encourage that. Still, the spice tray and level 4 works just fine if you like some say in how fiery you want your food. If we're having dinner we usually start off with an order of the fresh spring rolls, and then I opt for a seafood dish while my husband chooses a curry or a house specialty dish. I particularly like the seafood misting, and if my husband isn't having curry, he likes the 3 Amigos. I have also had the Haw Mok and the Gang Talay, and all of them have been very good and really flavorful. If we're going for the buffet, we always just go all out and sample pretty much everything. I've never had dessert here, but have occasionally enjoyed a cocktail with my meal, and they are fruity and strong. Sometimes my drink is even garnished with a little umbrella, and who doesn't love that?! Bangkok Pavilion is not my all time favorite place to get Thai food, but it certainly is very good and has earned my 4 stars. I really enjoy my meal each time we go, and I will definitely be back.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. They are incredibly rude. I purchased a groupon, came in to order carry out, and was told that my groupon states no carry out allowed. Even when I pulled out my groupon and showed them that in fact does not say that anywhere on it, they still insisted I was wrong and would not allow me to order. The lady even had the nerve to pull out someone else's old groupon and show me where it says "dine in only". That's lovely that theirs says that, mine does not. Now I will not be able to use the groupon, I will never come back, and I will advise others not to dine there either.

My uncle and grandfather used to work here when I was younger so I have been coming here years! It is still one of my favorite places for thai food. Buffet: I like to get the grilled pork and thai style papaya salad off the buffet. Both styles of the fish are also really good. Kids like the fried chicken and dessert. From the menu: I like the noodles in the fresh spring rolls. My kids like to get the crab rangoon and pad se eww (I prefer fresh noodles in my pad see eww so I'm not a big fan). My boyfriend LOVES the robin hood ribs. My family loves the whole red snapper in pla rad prig sauce. The magic shrimp is really good, but you only get a few pieces of shrimp.

We hadn't tried this place yet and live right next to Thai Place and get it all the time. It's a bit pricey but the portions are huge and it's always delicious. We wanted to see if anyone in the area could present a similar experience so I checked out the reviews for these guys and we placed a to go order. Why to go? because it's Thai. It's difficult to explain why it angers me that this place received such high ratings. Is it that no one knows what Thai should taste like? There was no heat, no flavor, mushy and lightly portioned. Do your self a favor and to to Thai Place a mile north. I know they don't have a buffet, but if these guys can't pull off a meal for two, how bad is the buffet?!

Always very friendly and I love supporting family operated businesses. The flavor is good and quality high. We have been coming here for years and even in brink economy they never cut back on quality or service. The Thai hot can be hot depending on who is in the kitchen! The calamari which I recently dried was fantastic! Kid friendly and the curry as well as the black pepper as well as ginger stir fry are great.

Thanks to Groupon for getting me back to Bangkok Pavillion after a couple years. $15 for $30 - excellent! We were the only people in here around 5:15pm on a Wednesday, but a few more tables filled up afterwards. Nonetheless, it was quiet and service was great as a result. Not to say it wouldn't be with more people... I'll just break this down item by item: Beef Satay app - Absolutely delicious. Four skewers of nicely cooked (char-grilled) beef, with two different sauces - a peanut sauce, and a cucumber sauce of some kind. Both were awesome. It came on a bed of cabbage/carrots with a couple small pieces of bread. Gang Dang curry with beef - Ordered with four stars of spiciness (out of five), and it definitely had a kick to it. It was filled with a good amount of beef that didn't seem to be the best of quality but was good enough. Lots of peppers, peas, bamboo shoots and coconut milk. Very rich and flavorful. General Tso's Chicken (Thai Style) - Quite good, but not great. Lightly (very lightly) breaded and stir fried, it was sweet and cake with broccoli. A basic dish that is probably not for the adventurous, but tasty nonetheless. Bubble Tea - Pretty awful. I had lychee, and my fiance had mango. The taste of the fruit was fine, but the bubbles were awful. No flavor, rock hard. At $3.50 a pop, it was a waste of money. Rice - good, sticky, and plentiful. All in all, our bill was $42 with tax, or $12 after the Groupon, which I feel was fair (aside from the Bubble Tea). The restaurant itself is clean but basic. Parking is easy. All in all, a fine but not spectacular Thai place.

Bangkok Pavillion is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in Kansas City!! This place is wonderful in every way. My dining companion and I passed on the buffet, and offered striaght from the menu. I decided to order the strangest thing I could find which resulted in Level 2 Red Thai Duck Curry! (which came with rice) This curry had pineapple and tomotoes with the duck and was incredibly delicious! My friend shared her spring rolls. Every bite was like biting into a lovely vegetable garden. Thai food comes in levels of hotness. I got Level 2 and it was almost too spicy to handle! I can't imagine what Level 5 feels like!! Our waitress was delightful. We were stuffed by the end of our meal, but she came over with the check and offered us free dessert from the buffet!! How can you resist an offer like that!?! Despite being full, we decided to try dessert and thank goodness we did!!! We had some kind of glorious warm, brown sugar tapioca pudding which was absolutely amazing! I have no idea what the other dessert was, but it tasted like Fruity Pebbles!! I adore Bangkok Pavillion!

I've been seriously remiss in not writing this review. I used to go to Bangkok Pavillion for lunch pretty frequently when I worked in OP years ago. Since then I confess, I'd let it fall by the wayside. I recently rediscovered Bangkok Pavillion and couldn't be happier about it. This review is for the weekend buffet since that is the only time I get out to OP anymore. All of the buffet items are very good, some of my favorites are the seafood salad, the lettuce wraps, the Fried Curry Rice with Seasoned Pork Rind is delicious and the Rice Noodle with Herbal Chicken Curry is fragant and amazing. However the shining star in my opinion and the reason that I'll keep going back is the Curried Flounder. The fish in this dish is always cooked perfectly, firm, moist, flaky, awesome and the curry sauce is the curry I've been looking for my whole life, spicy yet creamy, thick, just flat out fantastic. Now I'm craving it and it's only Tuesday. Service and prices are nice.

We were disappointed in this restaurant. Not only was the atmosphere, decor and service less than par, the food was nothing special. We got the pad kee mow and the pad see ew. Both dishes were bland and the pad see ew was very shy on the Chinese broccoli which is traditionally in this dish. Our server disappeared a few times and when she finally came back to our table she had quite an attitude. We will not be going back this this restaurant.

Medium atmosphere. Medium service. Medium food. A Quiet and comfortable dining room that is modestly decorated was adequate for a pleasant experience. The wait staff had trouble taking our drink order so three trips for five adults was required. The food was tasty but not all of it was served hot. It was a Monday night so that may be the reason for the mediocre experience. The dining room was nearly empty but we noticed a steady stream of takeout business. Perhaps that is the preferred choice of the locals. We will not be planning a return trip anytime soon. If you are close by and want Ti food I think you will be pleased.

We met some friends for the Special Sunday Buffet. It was very enjoyable. The buffet included a nice assortment of meats, vegetable, rice, noodles, soups and fruit. We especially enjoyed the liberal use of southeast asian herbs, which is a rarity in KC.

So much Thai food in one place! The food itself was pretty delish and would eat anything that is served on the buffet. My only problem with it is that Thai food is something I don't want to eat large quantities of... I judge any Thai place on their curry and this place had a delish curry! The place is big and was able to hold my entire family. Lots of food. Yummy Thai Iced Tea. Give it a try for yourself.

Stopped here on a day off to try their lunch buffet. It was close to 1pm yet the restaurant was still fairly busy. They did a good job of keeping the items on the buffet fresh. Not a huge selection, but it was tasty and hot. The service was excellent as well. I will definitely come back and try Bangkok Pavilion again.

Bangkok Pavillion was yet another stop on my quest for boba consumption! We stopped in for dinner one evening after a trip to Half Price Books and were greeted by an adorable older server. I am noticing a trend - and it is that I would like to have an adorable Asian grandmother. For now I will settle for dining with them at restaurants. My dinner of choice was the standard pad thai - I prefer mine with chicken and tofu, they were more than willing to make this substitution. My so also wanted a few adjustments to his pineapple rice and again, she was more than willing to accommodate. Next time I would like to try one of the more authentic dishes, I wasn't feeling too adventurous on this day. Throughout the meal the service was friendly and attentive from several servers - everyone around us seemed to be satisfied as well. We also ordered, of course, our boba drinks. We chose honeydew and thai tea, both of which were tasty. I also liked that they had the standard black boba as well as some rainbow boba mixed it. The drinks were a great consistency and flavor. We enjoyed our food and thought the portion sizes were more than enough for lunch the next day. I wouldn't say it is the best Thai food I have ever had, but it is certainly a nice standard to go to when we are in the area. I prefer several of the Thai places closer to my house though. I did also notice there was a strong smell of cleaning agent in here that initially turned me off, but I didn't notice it as much by the end.

This is in my opinion, the best Thai restaurant in the city bar none. The only other place I love as much as this is Thai Siam in Lawrence, KS. Bangkok Pavilion is not in your typical trendy restaurant locale, so skepticism is a little normal. The restaurant is family owned and everyone is extremely nice. I've had the pad thai and the pad see ew, but my favorites are the red and green curries with both chicken and beef, subbing out the rice for rice noodles. They use a great selection of vegetables in these curries as well. Also, if you get the chance, stop by for the lunch buffet, it's amazing.

I remember why I hate buffets. My friend had a hair in his pad thai as well as wrapped INSIDE HIS NAPKIN. Yuck.

Came here for the weekday lunch buffet ($7.95). The buffet looks small, but I thnk that is because it is in a U-shape in the back corner. There is lots of food there. They have dessert (which I never get at Asian buffets), salad and soup. The salad was good with a ginger dressing. I tried the white rice with mixed veggies, veggie pad thai, Egg Rolls (a bit overdone), Pot Stickers, Grilled Beef(yum!) and Chicken Ga Pow (the BEST). I usually get Pad Thai when I go to Thai restaurants. I think Ga Pow is my new favorite. There is also a condiment station for those of us that need to spice up our food. Can't be too spicy on a buffet. It's a fair price for the food. I was dying for a diet coke, so that additional $2.50 or so made it ridiculous, but that's what you get when you order a soda in a restaurant. I'll be back.

I have been here several times and never had a disappointing meal. My favorite so far has been the papaya salad. They make it two ways. Both are great. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Seems to be our go to place now for Thai food.

ugh... i guess I ate the wrong things here, since it seems most people come for the lunch buffet. Note to self...give Bangkok Pavillion another try with the buffet. The pad thai noodles were congealed and undercooked, and vegetables from both the pad thai and curry were undercooked and crunchy. Spring rolls were very average. Overall a meal that was disappointing, considering how excited I was to try this place out due to the ratings. They got the flavors right, but I think they need to review their cooking methods. On a whim, I decided the try the thai tea bubble tea. BAD BAD idea. It had a light tea flavor, but was clearly made from powdered drink mix. The boba was horrendous and had obviously been sitting out all day (or night... or week...). I was hoping for some stronger tea flavor and 'Q' boba. I MIGHT give this place another try, but not anytime soon.

The food is good but the baby back ribs are what I come for (even though this is a Thai restaurant). I've had the pad thai which was good, but the rad na surprised me. I recall Rad na to be gravy sauce chow fun type of a dish but I was surprised when I got a soup bowl filled to the top with sauce, although it was still edible minus surprise. Most people enjoy the Robin Hood ribs which come with side of fried rice. Very tasty and you can choose the spiciness level you want, but be forewarned a 4 or 5 will make you cry. I usually get a 2 or 3 but that's just for me.

  • Ben M.

Nope! Bad Idea! The cold spring rolls were average but the peanut sauce was terrible. It lacked flavor and had the consistency of baby food with nuts in it. It was not ideal for dipping my spring rolls in. The curry was a 2 out of 5. The curry itself had a decent flavor but the vegetables were way undercooked. The Pad Thai Jay's noodles were congealed, stuck together and way over cooked. The vegetables in the Pad Thai Jay were just the opposite of the noodles and way undercooked. Again the flavor seemed to be there but it was like eating mush (noodles) with rocks (vegetables). The Thai Tea Bubble Tea was another bad idea. The boba was older than me and the drink lacked actual tea flavor. I think it was from a pre made mix because they said that they could not adjust the sweetness. All of the good reviews here seem to be about the buffet. So, I might have gotten the wrong things. I MAY? go back and try the buffet in the future.

Duck/egg noodle soup was delicious and you get SO much food for your money. Very authentic food (I lived in Thailand) and very polite service. I will be back for more duck noodle soup.

Bangkok Pavilion has some seriously good food! I love the crispy fried duck. It tends to be a little tough in spots, but it's gloriously flavorful and just all-around yummy. I like spicy food but I don't like lingering heat, so I ordered "between level 1-2" (on a scale of 1 to 5) and it was just right. My husband is pretty difficult to impress, but he absolutely raved over the pineapple fried rice. He got it at a level 3 and said it the heat was excellent - hot without being searing or overpowering. The portion sizes are huge, the food is always hot and fresh, and we've never yet been disappointed.

This is the best Thai restaurant in the KC Metro. They have dishes from different regions in Thailand and they can make their food as mild or spicy as you like. I always go for the Laab (chicken or beef), sticky rice, Papaya Salad (Thai or Laos style), and the Grilled Beef Salad. On the weekends, they have an amazing buffet so if you're not sure on what you like, you can sample many different items. Definitely check this place out!

Did a takeout of Pad Thai from here. Asked for medium spicy, and that's what I got! It's an unusual combo. Green onions, chives, huge pieces of chicken, good size shrimp, and lots of other veggies. You get a huge portion, which accounts for the higher than normal price. I'd describe it as "earthy and fresh." I hear they have a buffet. I'll be back!

BP is probably the only reason that I would ever consider moving from the Northland. It is hands-down my favorite Thai place in KC. I've only come for the lunch buffet and making the drive down during lunch hours at work is quite the drive, but SO worth it. My absolutely favorite is the green curry. Actually that is pretty much the only thing I eat from the buffet. I mean, of course, I load up on the dumplings and usually some rice soup and crab rangoons (all of which are good, but nothing to write about), but the curry is what I come for. I also find the poor service reviews a little surprising. Perhaps it is an issue with a language barrier(?), because I've never had anything but absolutely positive experiences with the staff and the buffet is always stocked and full. I am, however, constantly losing brownie points from the husband because I come here during lunch at work without him and then proceed to gloat about it for a few days after. At least if I get divorced I'll have all-I-can-eat green curry to drown away my sorrows.

Great seafood dishes and fantastic weekend buffet at lunch time . Authentic and pho as well as 2 different papaya salad on the Buffett . Desserts are the kind I had in Thai . Tub Tim krob and taro and coconut pudding was among some of them

2.5 stars Thai buffet - sounds like heaven on a hot plate. We were not imprressed, however. The food was bland. I guess they do this because people like different levels of heat. They did have a station of spices. The rangoon were like little diaper packets. They weren't bad, but nothing special. The dumplings were like baked... crispy, but not fried. The end result was a very dry dumpling and me trying to conjure up a sauce off the spice station. The orange chicken tasted like orange dish detergent chicken. Don't question my basis. The Thom Yum and spring rolls were my favorite items. The coconut jello was interesting. Not a flavor explosion by any means. Had the meal been spicy, then it would have been a nice cool treat. I might come back some day and order off the menu just to be fair, but the buffet does not give me hope.

Terrible customer service!!! Child pricing stops at age 5! I have NEVER seen that at another restaurant anywhere in the city. Then when they delivered the bill, they added gratuity because we had 6 people in our party (3 adults, 3 kids). Absolutely ridiculous. None of this was told to us up front & if it was printed in a menu we wouldn't know, as we were only offered buffet & not given menus. When I questioned the manager about it she was very rude. We will never visit Bangkok Pavilion again for their over priced food & poor service.

Food was good but charging an 18 months for having a plate full of vegs to watch is ridiculous. I guess I should of asked about having a plate that boy did not touch count as a meal. Will never set foot at this place again!

Unfortunately, i was not impressed with Bangkok Pavillion. I'll give them that their curries are probably the best in town (as far as I know), but that really isn't saying much. I don't know why KC is stuck with such awful Thai food when we have great options for just about everything else. Maybe my standards are just super high after eating at the glorious mom-and-pop establishment that is Chang in Sherwood, Arkansas for the last few years, but damn. (Seriously, if you're ever in little Rock, for whatever crazy reason, it's worth the ~20 minute drive north to have some amazing Thai food. Be sure to order off the menu, though.) Like all the other KC restaurants, I found the curry to be fairly watery, not thicker and almost cream soup-like as I'm used to (and how it's supposed to be). It was fairly tasty, though, so I'll give them a solid B+ there. Their noodle dishes were okay at best. My pad thai was partially overcooked and mushy and partially too dried out - a weird mix of noodle doneness. I tried the tom yum and wasn't thrilled with it, but that's not a dish I care much for, anyway. The dumplings are fine but unremarkable. I know they're just dumplings and all, but I'm pretty sure they're bought in. They're a bit too much like what you see at [cheap Amerinese restaurant] for comfort. They also have some mass-bought dumpling sauce for you to enjoy. Meh. I also sampled a pork stir fry dish that was mediocre and pad kee mow that was average. If I ever NEED red, green, or massaman curry, I'll go back, but even in a town of pathetic Thai food, Bangkok Pavillion didn't cut the mustard for me. P.S.: If any of you know of a good Thai place I should try, please let me know. I've been to many of them, including Thai Place (westport and 87th street), that awful place on Martway, Thai House, Tasty Thai up north, and probably some others I just can't recall. I need my Thai fix!

I LOVE Thai food and had been craving it for a while (couldn't convince my husband to go out for it whenever we went out for dinner). Finally I won out and based upon the other Yelp reviews we decided to come here for dinner about a month ago. I just realized I had not reviewed it yet. Initially I think I probably would have given it two stars because the service wasn't that bad. The food was though. So bad in fact that it has ruined Thai food for me. I was just looking at a review for another restaurant and then went to look at the menu. Nothing on it looked appetizing to me. Why? Because I immediately thought of how poorly cooked and flavored our food was here. The atmosphere here was also very glum and depressing. Yes, it's likely based upon the reviews that they might have just been having a bad night. I've had poor Italian food before, bad Indian, horrible Mexican, but none have deterred me from trying another restaurant. I really hopes this changes!

Amazing flavor, variety, innovation. It's the best Thai food I have had in KC. Love that natives eat here. The buffet is unlike anything you've tried before. A world of spice and heat. Make this your first stop if you are looking for the best Thai in town.

The most important thing to review is never go with big group. We always go in a group of 10-12 people most of the time. The service was really bad and if you want to act back by paying less tip (I tried reducing tip to 12%) you wont be able to do that. They will charge you 18% whatever you tell them. Food was OK but avoid trying prawn and bubble tea. The bubbles will be frozen and most of them will be bigger than the straws diameter, what is bubble tea if you can't enjoy more than half of the bubbles. I am never going back to this place in my life.

Was very disappointed in food selection. Food was over cooked and not tasty at all. The soup tasted like Campbell soup. I can see why it's so cheap. Service was wonderful just not so good food. Will not be back.

Personally, I didn't care too much for my visit. The service was pretty good so I gave it a 3 instead of 2 star rating. I had a chicken dish, and since I don't really like spicy foods, I had their mildest. It was pretty mild, as in not even slightly hot, including the flavor level. I'll probably try just a bit higher next time... I'm not sure if it's the dish I had, Thai food in general, or this restaurant in general, but the sauce for 2/3 dishes for our table was like soup. I definitely didn't care for that. Worst strawberry daiquiri I've ever had. I'd go back if invited, but I probably won't go back on my own again.

Horrible customer service! Menu says that the Pad Thai includes chicken and shrimp. 1st we were told it didn't say that, upon showing them on their own menu that it said that we were told that it was wrong. Instead of honoring what there menu said we were charged extra for the shrimp. Will not go here again. Pad thai was fair, very greasy

We had the thai style green papaya salad for an appetizer--delicious. Pad Thai and Gand Dang (not sure about the name of that one-it was their 'most popular' red curry) for main course. Pad Thai: excellent. Noodles done just right, just the right amount of sauce, meat perfectly done--everything really flavorful. Gand dang (or whatever it was): good curry. Not a huge fan of bell peppers in curries--they're just meh in there. Same with bamboo shoots for me. Peas? Interesting. But curry sauce itself was delicious. Awesome server; Brenda was her name. Overall great time and great experience. We will be going back sometime relatively soon.

This place is so delicious. The food is great, the service is wonderful. They're always so cute with my kids. It's been my favorite place ever, until the last time I came. We were in the middle of a delicious meal. Then my friend pointed it out... behind me.... COCKROACH on the wall! Sad. I'll never go back, because for every one you see, there are like 100 you don't. gross. I'm so bummed, but I can never look at the place the same way.

I am new to a lot of ethnic foods. Marie F has been helping me broaden my culinary horizons. Both of us had heard good things about this place and thought it would be a great place to sample several things. The food gods must have been working against us this day. I had browsed the posted photos here and found much of it to be appetizing.. Unfortunately the lunch buffet contained only about four entree-ish items two of the them were curry based.....no thank you curry doesn't like me. and vice versa. The orange chicken was pretty good, as was the stir fried vegetable medley. The potstickers, rangoons and the house salad were all good as well, and that was the heart of my meal. The soup was a nice addition but really didn't have too much flavor. I sampled several of the condiment type sauces at the bar, some of them were like liquid fire.others were salt bombs. The clincher that drove us out of the restaurant, really was only an unfortunate timing issue. We were there at 11 when they opened so we were one of only two occupied tables in the whole place at opposite ends of the room. One lady came in and was seated by the staff at my right elbow, when all of the entire place was up for grabs. This person went on to prove to us that she had some sinus issues....she sat and back-sucked snot rockets through our entire visit. Food just isn't as appetizing with that right off your starboard bow. I would like to try again and order off the menu, hopefully being seated in a more secluded area or with a more considerate fellow diner. I'm not giving up on this place yet.

This place was not impressive to me or my dining partner. Despite the glowing yelp reviews, I should have known something was up from the empty parking lot at dinner time. The service was great...as we were the only table in the restaurant. However, the food is sub-par in every way. I had the pad thai and my friend had the pineapple fried rice. I never knew Thai food could be so bland! That makes me quite sad. Thai food should be full of flavor. Not so at Bangkok Pavillion. My pad thai was also very greasy and reminded me of lo mein. My friend's rice was lacking the pineapple taste and not served in a pineapple like many other restaurants serve the dish. Oh well. It's always a gamble trying new Thai restaurants. I will be sticking to my tried and true places for a while.

The prime reason why I went to this place for buffet so many times is water chestnut in coconut milk (tuptim krob). This is one of my favorite Thai dessert. I could not find it in any Thai restaurants I have visited around KC areas. This dessert is authentic, very similar to what I had back in Thailand. The next reason is the papaya salad. They have both Thai style and Laos style for papaya salad. The Laos style is my favorite and it is rare in US. Try the papaya salad with the sticky rice. It is very delicious. The third reason is the Pad Thai. Although the noodle is not similar to the original pad thai (the noodle similar to pho), the noodle is a small cube, which is actually very good. As other buffets, some food are good and others are okay. If you try to find an authentic Thai restaurant around KC, this is the one I would recommend for you. It is as good as it gets around here.

This place was SO good! We got a groupon for them, and we were so glad we tried it! My husband got the Pad Prig Khing and I got the Cashew Chicken. The chicken was tender, the veggies fresh and the sauces were wonderful. Not to sweet as you find often in stir fry dishes. We're looking forward to going back and trying to buffet!

"bzzzzzz. bzzzzzzz. bzzzzzz." I'm lying in bed. I look to my left. My cell phone is vibrating. It's my friend Liz. It's a gorgeous Sunday morning. I'm thinking, "mimosas! bloody marys!" Yes, I could definitely use something to hair this flippin dog hanging around after last night's tequila shots and brews. Liz has something else in mind. She wants pho. That's fine with me. Pho is nature's cure for hangovers. The odd part is, she suggests a Thai restaurant for a clearly Vietnamese dish. Interesting. She swears this place is amazing including the pho. I decide to take her word for it; I mean, the girl is half-Vietnamese. Plans are settled for us to meet up. As usual, I end up waiting near an hour in the parking lot for good ole Liz to finally arrive. And as per usual, Liz has some outlandish tale as to why she didn't arrive on time. What was the excuse you ask? "The ATM I went to ran out of money." Rigggghhhh Liz. I still love you. We enter Bangkok Pavillion. Immediately, we are greeted and seated. I'm already happy about that. Our drink orders are taken -- aqua on the rocks for two. On the weekends during brunch, there is a nice-sized buffet. I'm not going to lie. I've been to many Thai buffets and I've always left so so disappointed. Needless to say, my mind was pretty made up that it was going to be crap. Well slap me silly, I was wrong. I hate being wrong, but I was wrong. The buffet was filled with such a variety of items. There were curries, meats, papaya salad, noodle dishes including a coconut curry noodle soup that was delicious. I love papaya salad and they had it available in both Lao and Thai style. AWESOME! There was even STICKY rice! I think this was the first place I found that had sticky rice. And of course, I had to try the pho. There was a young lady dressed in traditional Thai clothing serving the pho. Most know that pho is basically a rice noodle dish served with beef broth, slices of beef, meatballs, all garnished with bean sprouts and herbs. The portion was small compared to what I am used to but it was a buffet, so if you wanted more of course you could go back. The broth was so flavorful. After two plates and two bowls of soup (the curry noodle soup and pho), I was well on my way into a food coma. After all of that, the dog I was trying to hair had completely escaped my mind. Where's Fido ya'll?

What a treat!! I was in the area for work and craving Thai. Did a Yelp search for restaurants in the area and this gem came up. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and panang curry. Yummy!!! Definitely would go back! The curry had a perfect blend of spices and the spiciness had my lips on fire!! (ordered that way) Giant serving of curry too! The staff were friendly and gave recommendations which were much appreciated. My new regular fix for Thai in Overland Park!

This place as been a family favorite for years and years - I'm talking pre-fire, old building years and years. The food is fantastic and extremely flavorful. We were so glad to see that Bangkok reopened its doors after rebuilding. Some of our family favorites that we order every visit include: Fresh Spring Rolls Chicken Satay Curried Duck Pad Thai Fire Chicken Green Curry (chicken or shrimp) There are few Thai places as tasty as this one. They do have an off night on occasion in which their food is only good instead of great; don't be discouraged as it is usually extremely delicious. The buffet never disappoints and is a must try. The heat scale is on a 1-5 star scale. I enjoy a good amount of spice and tend to get either 2.5 or 3. Proceed with caution if thinking about anything higher (and bring a sweat rag). Also, don't miss the coconut ice cream - always amazing!

I thought this place was quite good, but not the best thai food I ever had. The Crab Rangoons were the big puffy kind, not the tiny crispy kinds, but the portions were fair. I had the green curry which was well portioned and tasted great. It had peas, which was an unpleasant surprise. My hubs got the Pad Kee Mow and thought it was quite good too. Not overly saucy, veggies were not overcooked, still had some bite. I ordered my curry at a spice level 4 and almost died, the super sweet server checked on me multiple times. I suggest going there at least once. We used a groupon, and the server did not make me feel cheap when I whipped it out.

Stopped in here for lunch this past Saturday after hearing about it here on Yelp. First good sign when we walked in is that we were some of the only non-Asian people in the restaurant, so you know the food has to be good and authentic. The hostess was very friendly, she sat us, got us drinks and then took us to all the different stations of their buffet. So many choices, so many I wanted to try. All of them were great. Really friendly people here and the food matches the personality of the restaurant, it's great. I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody that likes Thai.

Bangkok Pavillion is awesome. They offer a very good weekday buffet and an expanded buffet during the weekend. The regular menu is great, the curries are wonderful and reasonably priced. My favorite is the Gang Dang Curry, but the Panaeng Curry and Yellow Curry are also delicious. I have also tried a few of their soups and they are filling and flavorful. My favorite is the Tom Kha Gai, made with white chicken breast, lemon grass, coconut milk and ginger. Soooo good!!!! Definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in town and the service is always wonderful.

Bangkok Pavilion is my favorite Thai restaurant in the Kansas City area. Drats that it's so far away from my house! The food is fantastic and the service is phenomenal, easily the best I've had anywhere. They cater the food to your spice preference and offer menu suggestions. I ordered the extremely fragrant tofu and vegetables red coconut curry while my fiancee got a stir-fried tofu glass noodle dish. The portions were large and we had to box about half of our entrees to go. Since it was a cold night, we also got the hot Thai tea that comes with unlimited refills. What I believe to be the owner's wife was extremely quick to refill our tea every time without us flagging her down. I very faintly recall trying the lunch buffet here many years ago prior to my vegetarian days and thought it was good. It wasn't until after we walked into the restaurant and I noticed the buffet set up did I realize that I had been to Bangkok Pavilion before in what now seems to be a different lifetime. When we're in the OP area again, my fiancee and I will happily eat here again.

We dined at Bangkok Pavillion last night (a Saturday night) and we really liked it. The food was very fresh, the spiciness was perfect, and our crab rangoon appetizer was perhaps the best I have ever had. My husband had an orange roughy entree and it was very good. It was fried but so lightly fried that it was not greasy at all. I had the Shrimp lost in the forest and it was fantastic! Waitstaff was attentive and polite. We will definitely come here again.

My wife and I just moved here and were looking to try the local pho. We went here at 330 at the beginning of their dinner session and were a little worried at seeing no one there, but once we started eating we were relieved. The food was excellent. My wife had the beef noodle soup, their version of pho, and the flavor was outstanding. I had the basil duck... amazing! We will def be back to try their famous buffet later.

Decent prices and good food. We went recently with our toddler and had a good dinner. Staff were very accommodating with our fussy little one and it wasn't their fault he was particularly squirmy that night and it wasn't a kid-focused atmosphere (no crayons, gasp!). My husband and I both had the Pad See Ewe, with beef and tofu, respectively, and it was very good. I was a bit disappointed by the spring rolls (stuffed with shredded iceberg?), but the peanut sauce was very good. We will be going back, as it appears to be one of the few Thai restaurants in this area. Although they have cloth napkins, the dress was casual (shorts, jeans) to business casual.

This is my brother's favorite place. He and my mom go every Sunday. I've been there once. The food was OK. A little bit bland, but satisfying. Didn't blow me out of the water though. We did, however, come at the very tail-end of the buffet, so take into consideration that the food had been sitting out. The service, however, was fantastic. Kept our waters full and cleared out plates, and the manager came over to visit the table. My brother introduced me, and she asked how my mother was doing (how sweet!). Told me she loved my brother because he eats a lot. =] I really appreciated that they acknowledged their return customers. My brother asked if they were going to put out any more flounder, and the waitress said the buffet was already over (my brother thought we had some time but apparently we were lucky to grab the food before they cleared it out). However, the waitress went back to "see what she could do" and the chef cooked my brother a plate of flounder especially for him and counted it as the buffet. That was AWESOME. Bumped my review up from a 3 to a 4. I would be willing to give this place another chance when I'm back in town, and try off the menu instead of the buffet (or at least, come on time for the buffet!).

I can't believe I waited so long to go here. I'm a huge fan of Thai Place, but the prices kill me! My friend told me that they serve Papaya Salad on the weekend buffet so I had to try it. The whole buffet was $10.95 and I pay that for one plate of papaya salad at Thai Place. I spent 2 months in Thailand, so I know real Thai food. This was definitely toned down spice wise, but the flavors were great. Great curry, basil chicken, papaya salad, and beef ball soup. I could have stuffed myself silly if my kids would have sat still through it. The staff was friendly and kind. I will go back!

Best Thai in town! Weekend buffet is awesome, weekday buffet is good except it is a little predictable (almost always the same dishes). The weekend buffet has so many great authentic southeast asian dishes it is hard to list them all. the Laab (Lao and Thai both) are great, the Pho or Beef Noodle Soup is made to order, and the fish dishes are always good. Food off the menu is better than buffet, so don't compare to other non-buffet restaurants until you have tried. I go for HOT, and they can make it HOT if you really ask. On the other hand, my wife is much more tame, but we rarely if ever have issues with heat being wrong or mixed up. Some highlights for me are the Seafood Noodle Soup, The Duck Curry, the Green Curry, and Fresh Spring Rolls, and the crab rangoon. While not a not a traditional Thai dish, the crab rangoon is different in a great way. A friend of mine wishes they sold them in a 20 piece bucket like KFC :) (It is much better at dinner than on buffet, as are most other things). Staff is friendly, food is consistently great, and prices are much better than that "other thai" place chain. Business in the last few years has been slow at dinner, but don't let that dissuade you. Even if the lot is empty you can count on the food to be prepared fresh and with the same attention (if not more) as it would be if the place was packed.

I love the lovely chicken! The peanut sauce is so delicious.

My family LOVES the Bangkok Pavilion. We have had food catered by them for major events and are frequent customers of their weekend buffet. I can't say enough good things about the food or the owners, and staff. The high quality of the food has remained the same over the last 10 years we have been going there. I honestly cannot review for a sit down dinner service as we have only gone for the buffet, and used the catering. I suggest trying the weekend buffet if this is a first trip.

Hilarious mall location, ok Thai food. We got take-out to go to the free Friday concert on the lawn of the Nerman, so I can't speak to the interior atmosphere, but the windmill on top of the strip mall was pretty hilarious to me. Oh, suburban absurdity. The food, ok. I'd go back as it was well priced, but this is not my first choice for Thai in KC. The Crab Rangoon (completely not authentic Thai, I know) was so well sealed in its little fried package that it squirted filling on me when I bit into it. It happened on both that I tried, and was a bit gross. I mean, we're talking full-on projectile filling. Eesh. Thankfully, I was just wearing jeans and sitting on a picnic blanket, but this could be dangerous... The taste was ok, but a bit heavy. The Basil Fried Rice was the best part of our dinner, nice and light on the soy sauce, good basil flavor, but not overpowering. Very well done tofu. The Pad Kee Mow was unimpressive. We ordered medium spice, but it was very mild (perhaps a nod to the suburban KC location and their usual clientele?). The noodles were a bit tough, and while the tofu was good, the dish just didn't impress. I did like that they asked if egg was ok and if fried tofu was ok when I ordered. Nice touch. The service was fast and friendly, a definite plus. I'd go back and try it again, perhaps for dining in, but wouldn't hurry out to the 'burbs for this one.

Haven't tried the buffet yet, but have had dinner there on several occasions, and this is, hands down, the best Thai food in KC. Don't pass up the opportunity to try it yourself!

One night in Bangkok & you will be sold. I know that's lil lame but I tried. I'm a Thai Place fan but I have to say this is close 2nd. They do a few things that I haven't had at other Thai restaurants. For one, the stir fried tofu with baby sprouts, I order this every time I go there. It is out of this world, lightly seasoned with garlic & you can determine the spice level, medium seems to do the trick for me. They also have a great seafood soup, the hurricane, awesome but is a bit on the salty side. I always ask them to lay off the salt a bit & sometimes they do. The service is always good & now has become one of my favorite places to eat.

2 words. Lovely Chicken. I've been eating here since I was a kid and I can't get past the mahogany colored sweet/spicy (I go 5 stars/Thai hot) peanut sauce enveloping the succulent sliced chicken breast that is "Lovely Chicken". Surrounded by a ring of freshly steamed broccoli and served with fresh jasmine rice. It truly is perfection on the end of a chopstick. Best crab rangoon I've ever tried as well. Thin crispy wrapper (much thinner than Chinese crab rangoon) plenty of creamy crab laden filling and a magically clear, sweet and spicy sauce. Best ever. Sampled lots of other dishes, always been good. Great service, super nice people, consistently good food. I've tried the lunch buffet a couple of times and it was very good, but alas... no Lovely Chicken. Probably for the best or I'd weigh 600 pounds, it's that good. Go there now.

Made it in for the lunch buffet -they didn't offer me a menu and I didn't ask - today and enjoyed it quite a bit (keep in mind it was a buffet, so you know...). The selection is far from vast, but everything on there was pretty good. There were dumplings, crab rangoons, laab nah, a tasty pork dish, a couple of curries, rice, fried rice, curried rice, some veggie dishes and a few more. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of the phad thai. I can't pin it down, but it wasn't to my liking. Overall, I'd recommend it in lieu of a "Chinese" buffet, but I'd recommend most anything over the majority of those buffets in town so forget that, but it was a good change nonetheless.

If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. The customer service was terrible. The food was sub-par. I've never seen so much congealed food at any other restaurant. I will never go back and will never recommend to anyone else. It was easily the worst restaurant experience I've had in years.

I had a stomachache for the rest of the day after eating here. The only thing I enjoyed was the tapioca pudding and the pork potstickers. I thought it was icky.

Hands down the best asian lunch buffet in town. It is on the expensive side but the food is so incredible you won't mind! The staff is very nice and quick to help. I have also eatin numerous things from the menu and it's far superior to the buffet!! Must tries; curries, pad thai and the crab rangoons are excellent!

Just moved to Kansas and had heard rave reviews about the weekend buffet at Bangkok Pavilion. Well I didn't make it to the buffet, so I can't comment on it, but the food I ordered off the dinner menu was really good. The lady who served us was really nice too. She even gave us more rice when we had to take our food to go. I'll be back for the buffet soon.

Have had the lunch buffet several times. Lots of cool sauces that allow you to spice up the dishes as much as you want. Nice selection, very good!

I met a friend for buffet lunch at Bangkok Pavilion on Black Friday, after reading so many excited Yelp reviews about it. I was pretty disappointed with the food. The selection is tiny! I was impressed by their vegetables -- most Asian buffet veggies are overcooked or lacking --, and the chicken potstickers were good, but the orange chicken was fatty and gross. I feel like maybe I caught this place on a bad day, though it wasn't busy at all. I'd hesitate to go back, but if I find myself there again I will see about these ribs people seem to fawn over.

This restaurant is a treat. I have long been skeptical and yet pulled in by Thai buffets. Their potential always exceeding their practice. But Bangkok Pavillion largely meets the concept in application. The buffet manages to serve excellent dishes and soups with the quality of a made-to-order meal. The Tom Yum soup is not at all overpowering as in most Thai restaurants. It's lighter less intense flavor adds much more to the meal and was a delight. The pad thai was the only noodle dish and did not meet the quality of the rest of the buffet. It was a bit gummy and while tasty, I suspect the noodle texture fell prey to the heat lamps. The curries really shined here. The yellow and panang curry lived up to the hype and tasted great. There was a lot of creaminess from the amount of coconut milk they added. The other dishes were all very good. Perhaps not excellent but surprisingly good for a buffet. The best Thai buffet I've had so far. The potsticker and eggrolls were a nice touch and made without the greasiness you'd expect in a buffet. Jolly good show for a $11 buffet.

This is my friend's absolute favorite place to eat in Kansas City, because it is the only place that he can find a dish called Lovely Chicken - a mild dish with a lovely peanut sauce. I guess the name says it all! He took us there and we loved it, too. The staff is very friendly, and they can provide recommendations from the very large entree menu. Good vegetables and meat, and you can ask for it as spicy as you like. Another one of my friends ordered some shrimp 'Thai hot' and the waitress laughed and asked if he was sure. When he got it, he said it was spicy but he ate the whole thing - and the waitress was truly amazed and offered her compliments. Also their buffet is wonderful - So much more Thai than just a regular Chinese buffet would be. But they do have dumplings, a buffet necessity in my mind. If you live in the area, I recommend taking a drive over to the Kansas side of the city to give Bangkok Pavilion a try!

Gave this place a shot and was very happy I did so. I went with the pad thai and could not have been more satisfied. The waitress ask what level of spice I wanted and I greatly appreciated it. To wrap up my experience, I had to get a honeydew bubble tea to go. Will be back with my business colleagues.

As beloved Thai Restaurant fans in St. Louis, we decided to pay Bangkok Pavillion a visit after watching the Cardinals beat the Royals at Kaufmann Stadium. When we first pulled up, there were only 2 cars in the parking lot, which scared us a little. The restaurant decor is what you'd expect at a Thai restaurant. The place was also very clean. Service was excellent. We were helped by a total of three folks that always made sure our drinks were full and plates were removed when done. During our experience, 3-4 more families came in, which livened the place up. We started out with an order of fresh spring rolls and a Thai Bubble Tea. The Bubble Tea was excellent. Quite refreshing! The spring rolls were awesome, and at only $2.95 for 2 of 'em. The peanut sauce that came with the rolls was very addiciting. For dinner, my wife and I shared an order of Pad Thai and Yellow Curry with Beef. The noodles used in the Pad Thai were a lot skinnier than I'm used too - almost like Ramen. Overall, it was pretty average. The yellow curry on the other hand was excellent. The sauce was extremely creamy and the veggies were cooked just right. We ordered it at a 3 on the 1-5 spice level and it was perfect. If we're ever back in Overland Park, we'll try this place again.

Went to the weekend buffet not really knowing what to expect and I was very pleasantly surprised. While on the small side, there was a good variety at the buffet and everything I tried was delicious-- particularly the pork and the two flounder dishes (one curried, the other with some sort of sweet and spicy sauce). The fried rice wasn't really anything special but was also good. The servers were very friendly and kept our drinks very full. We also didn't feel rushed at all, despite the patrons waiting for tables. The soup bar looked like it would have been good but I filled up on meats and couldn't find any room for it! Tiger W. was also correct in his observation that about 90% of the customers were Asian, Filipino, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese and it was very indicative of the quality of their food. Will definitely be going back to try some food straight off the menu in the near future and would recommend it to Thai and meat lovers alike.

I went for lunch buffet. Food was OK for me but probably "Great" for American because every dish was too sweet for me. They were pretty busy.

Tired of the same old Asian food? Scared to try something other than pad thai or generals chicken? Looking for flavors alien to the average palette? Hit the Bangkok Pavilion for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I went recently, hadn't been there since it burned down several years ago, and it was awesome. I'm the sort who loves to taste things I have never had before and this place was full of such dishes. I started with some sort of thai noodle soup with cellophane noodles. It was rich, garlicky, and with a little extra added just the right amount of heat. There was a great selection of various main courses, one of my favorites being a chilled sliced beef with cilantro. For dessert; various unknown items. They serve a warm tapioca that is to die for. If a chinese buffet is boring to you, give this place a try.

Thai Buffet?? Yesss! I would say this is the place to eat before and after a hangover. They have excellent food from catfish curry to pho and the normal fried rice and egg rolls. I come here every time I'm in Kansas City because its comfort food to me. Clean restaurants and awesome service. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. It is reasonably priced for the buffet!

Another favorite Thai restaurant, Bangkok Pavilion is a great introduction to Thai food - they have a lunch buffet every day. You can sample from a variety of dishes, and if you like things spicy, there are plenty of add-ons (pepper oils & mixtures) you can add to get that great burn going. The true gem is their weekend buffet - it's pricier than the weekday (around $11?) but it's truly authentic. The folks from the now-defunct Thai 2000 are in the kitchen & from our visits, it's a well-known fact in the community - we are always in the minority as numerous Asian families come in for the dining experience. Don't feel overwhelmed or threatened - all of the employees are delighted to help you, offer you new things, and explain what things are and how they are to be eaten. I tend to stick to a well-worn path of favorites, and through their offerings, have found myself eating things I'd normally never try. Again, a great way to try a variety of food without ordering multiple plates. Must haves: Lettuce wraps with pork, Chicken Curry Noodle Soup, Mussels.
